DOWNTOWN’S RAVEN O MOVING ON UP! (To 22nd Street)
New York- Raven O, a deep downtown entertainment fixture for decades, will sneak across the border (14th street) for his next performance on the cabaret circuit. He will hit the stage at the prestigious Metropolitan Room for a tribute show, Raven O-Sinatra “My Way”, Sunday, March 23rd at 9:30PM.
“I’m afraid my ankle bracelet might go off!” Raven joked. “I’m hoping my fan base will have my back as I enter uncharted territory. I will give them each a GPS and batteries to find me. “
So far fans have not had a hard time finding the former MC/star of “The Box”. His show at The Duplex Cabaret Theater January 31st sold out days in advance and he packed Joe’s Pub on October 23rd for his first appearance since returning to NYC after gigs in London and Las Vegas.
The promotion for the Sinatra show has Raven O wearing a suit and a Sinatra-esque Fedora, a far cry from his normal look which usually involved the least amount of clothing possible. Asked if he will be dressed formally for the occasion, Raven O replied, “I’m not giving away my look for the show, all I can say is the last time I dressed in a suit people mistook me for that bleached blonde exercise guru Susan Powter or TV financial advisor Suze Orman.
Raven wanted to stress this will not be an impersonation show but his own take on Sinatra hits. He will be sharing the stage with a musical trio led by award winning Jazz artist and musical Director, Ben Allison.
